As independent agents, we have access to hundreds of auto insurance products for your benefit.
Minimum Missouri Auto Insurance Coverage
Missouri laws dictate the minimum amount of coverage you need, regardless of the value or type of your vehicle. Therefore, when selecting an auto insurance policy, you need to have the following.
Bodily Injury Liability
If you are found to be at fault in an accident, this coverage pays for medical bills incurred by other parties. Missouri bodily injury liability must cover at least $25,000 per person per accident and at least $50,000 total to cover all parties involved in the accident. You can, however, elect to carry more liability insurance for your own peace of mind, especially if you have younger or less experienced drivers in the household.
Property Damage Liability
Sometimes property is also damaged in an accident, including another person’s vehicle or physical property like fencing, mailboxes, and landscaping. This coverage, which pays for property damage if you are at fault, must be at least $10,000. It does not cover damage to your own vehicle, which must be covered by additional collision coverage.
Uninsured Motorist Coverage
You’ll appreciate this coverage if you are ever involved in an accident with an uninsured driver (hard to believe, but they’re out there). This covers damages and medical bills if another driver is at fault. The minimum coverage is $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident.
Additional Optional Coverage
You may elect to add more coverage to your auto policy, depending on your unique circumstances and the value of your vehicle. If you finance your vehicle, especially if it is new, you may be required to have the minimum liability coverage listed above, as well as all the coverage below. This is known as “full coverage.”
Collision Coverage
This type of insurance covers damage to your vehicle if you are in an accident and found to be at fault, so another party’s insurance policy does not cover your damages. It will cover repairs or replacement of your vehicle, up to a certain limit depending on the policy you purchase. The great thing about collision coverage is that it gets you back to your regular routine quickly if your car is not drivable after an accident.
Comprehensive Coverage
This covers your vehicle in the event it is stolen, vandalized, or damaged by things like fire or natural disasters.
